Infinita Antonella Palmisano. La 32enne nata a Mottola ha conquistato la medaglia di bronzo nella 20 chilometri di marcia femminile ai Mondiali di atletica di Budapest.
L’azzurra non partiva con i favori del pronostico e sapeva che avrebbe dovuto mantenere un buon ritmo già dalla partenza. Così è stato, con la Palmisano a galleggiare nel gruppetto di testa fino al 10° chilometro, quando nella curva stretta in fondo al primo rettilineo ha perso aderenza, finendo per cadere e urtare violentemente l’asfalto. Brivido a parte, l’atleta delle Fiamme Gialle si è rialzata subito e nel giro di poche centinaia di metri è rientrata nuovamente nel gruppo delle migliori fino a staccare nell’ultimo chilometro Kimberly Garcia e Alegna Gonzalez per il bronzo.
La gara è stata vinta dalla spagnola Maria Perez in 1h26’51 davanti all’australiana Jemime Montag. Per la Palmisano, però, questa medaglia ha un sapore particolare, visto il lungo calvario che ha vissuto dopo la medaglia d’oro alle Olimpiadi di Tokyo. In un 2022 sfortunato in cui i problemi fisici le hanno impedito di competere da campionessa olimpica in carica, costringendola a rinunciare ai Mondiali di Eugene e agli Europei di Monaco di Baviera, l’azzurra si è definitivamente ritrovata. Ora nel mirino ci sono le Olimpiadi di Parigi.
Palmisano’s challenge: bronze at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest
Antonella Palmisano makes us dream. The 32 years old athlete from Mottola won the bronze medal in the women’s 20km walk at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest.
According to the forecast, the Italian athlete wasn’t between the favorites and she was conscious of having to keep a good rhythm already from the start. Indeed, she was in the lead group until the 10th km, when in a sharp curve she violently fell hitting the ground.
After the first moments of fear, the Fiamme Gialle athlete immediately got up and in a few meters caught up with the lead group until separating from Kimberly Garcia and Alegna Gonzalez in the last km to win the bronze.
The competition was won by the Spanish Maria Perez in 1h 26’51 in front of the Australian Jemine Montag.
But for Palmisano this medal has an important meaning, considering the ordeal she lived after winning the gold medal at Tokyo Olympic Games.
2022 was an unlucky year because of the many physical problems that stopped her from competing as current Olympic Champion, being forced to give up to Eugene World Championship and Monaco European Championship.
Palmisano finally found herself again and now aims at the next Olympic Games in Paris.
